Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL), a Coal India subsidiary of is planning to set up a thermal power plant at Sundergarh district in Orissa. The proposed plant will get coal from MCL's Basundhara coal mines. As of September 2014, around 800 acres has already been acquired and water linkages are in place.. The company is currently waiting for the Board's approval for the plant.
