Gujarat government and Rail Vikas Nigam, a subsidiary of the ministry of railways, jointly setting up a regional rail system project at Ahmedabad. The proposed system is to connect periphery towns and villages to Ahmedabad. As of January 2015, RVNL and the government of Gujarat is planning to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for the project and will launch a joint venture company through a Special Purpose Vehicle.
