Mineral Enterprises is planning to set up a 0.6 MTPA Integrated Steel Plant at Villages Dutunur Kaval & Kanave Aladahalli, Tehsil Channarayapatna in Hassan district of Karnataka. In the first phase the proposed project will have facilities like Raw Material Handling System (RMHS), 1.0 Mt/yr Beneficiation plant, 0.60 MTPA Pellet Plant and Auxiliaries and Services as required. In the second phase, the proposed plant will have Augmentation of RMHS, Coal Gasification plant, 1 x 2200 t/d Midrex DRI, 85 t EAF & LF units with future provision of VD unit, 1 x 4 strand Billet caster, Bar & Rod Mill, 2 x 30 MW Captive Power Plant, 1 x 850 t/d Oxygen plant and Auxiliaries and Utilities as required. Mecon Limited, Bangalore is the consultant for the project. As of March 2013, environment clearance for the project is underway.
