Super Airport Infrastructure India is planning to construct a greenfield private airport at Karaikal.Phase I of the project comprises constructing a 1.8-km runway and a 250 Peak Hour Passenger capacity terminal. Work on the project is expected to commence May 2013 and will be completed in November 2013. The company has already received statutory clearances from the regulatory agencies, including approval from the Civil Aviation Ministry and noobjection certificate from the Puducherry government.
