'Suvan Steels is planning to increase its sponge iron capacity. The project involves Establishment of Sponge Iron plant of 100 TPD capacity and Establishment of 8 MW captive power plant at Belagal Village, Bellary Tq and District in Karnataka. Sponge Iron will be manufactured through the coal-based route in which Iron Ore is converted into Directly Reduced Iron (DRI) in a Rotary Kiln fired by non-coking coal. This process is cheaper as compared to the gas-based process. As of March 2013, the project is in the planning stage.
