National Highways Authority of India is planning to take up a four laning of the Numaligarh- Jorhat section of National Highway-37 in the state of Assam under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme in North Eastern Region (SARDP-NE) Phase ‘A’ on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis in Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) (Annuity) mode of delivery. As of April 2013, the project has been cleared by Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.
