REC Transmission Projects is planning to take up Alipurduar power transmission project to strengthen transmission system in India for Transfer of Power from new hydro electric projects in Bhutan. The project involves evacuating power from Alipurduar onwards shall be done through + 800 kV, 6000MW Bishwanath Chariyal (Assam) – Alipurduar (West Bengal) – Agra (Uttar Pradesh) HVDC bipole link and Alipurduar – Siliguri & Kishanganj – Darbhanga400kV D/c (quad moose) lines. The project is to be implemented through an SPV ' Alipurduar Transmission Ltd'. As of October 2015, the company has short-listed PGCIL, Sterlite Grid, Adani, Kalpataru and Essel Infra Projects to award the contract for establishing the power transmission project.
