Kanpur Development Authority is planning to establish a metro rail project connecting IIT Kanpur to Naubasta route and Chandra Shekher Azad University to Jaurali route. IIT Kanpur to Naubasta route will will have 28 trains each consisting of 4 coaches and Chandra Shekher Azad University to Jaurali route will have 9 trains each consisting of 4 coaches. As of September 2015, Rail India Technical and Economic Service, the consultant for the project has submitted its preliminary Detailed Project Report (DPR) to KDA. Also, KDA is in talks with Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation, Kanpur Nagrik Manch, Jal Nigam to take part in the project.
