Karnataka Power Corporation is setting up a Gas Turbine-based combined cycle power plant at Yelahanka. In January 2015, the company awarded the EPC contract to BHEL. As of October 2015, the project has acquired all clearances from the Ministry of Environment, airports authorities, Health and Family Welfare Departments and others, and is awaiting clearance by defence authorities. Mean while. KPCL is also considering a proposal to convert the defunct diesel-generating station at Yelahanka into a gas-based power plant. The decision on this is yet to be taken.
