Konkan Railway Corporation is planning to develop the 103-km Karad-Chiplun rail line in Maharashtra. The proposed railway line will also have a the longest railway tunnel (12.8 km long) in India. The Chiplun-Karad rail link will enable port connectivity to the hinterland of Maharashtra. The Detailed Project Report has been completed by Konkan Railway. The traffic projection of the line has been done by PriceWaterhouse Coopers (PwC) and the financial viability study has been done by SBI Capital Ltd. The project has received in-principle approval from the Ministry of Railways and Konkan Railway is in the process of forming an SPV for implementation. As of November 2015, bids have been invited. As of November 2015, expression of interest has been invited to select the private sector developer.
