Chenab Valley Power Projects, a joint venture of NHPC Ltd, JKSPDC & PTC India Ltd is planning to set up a Kiru hydroelectric project in Jammu & Kashmir. The project envisages construction of a 123 metre (from river bed level) high concrete gravity dam across river Chenab with four intakes, four pressure shafts, and underground powerhouse of four units of 156 MW each. As of March 2016, The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Union Environment Ministry has given approval for the project.
