'Hitachi India is planning to set up a sea water desalination plant in the state that will treat 336,000 tonnes of water every day. The project will be funded by the Japanese government under Indo-Japan joint investment strategy. As of December 2012, the company was expecting to sign the contract next month with the Gujarat government to develop the project under Build-Own-Operate-Maintain (BOOM) method.
