South Western Railway is planning to take up a project for doubling of the Hotgi-Kudgi rail section. The project is being taken up for NTPC Kudgi . The Hotgi-Kudgi section (134 km) has 10 block stations, eight major bridges and two important bridges – on river Don and river Bheema. As of June 2016, NTPC-Kudgi signed an agreement with South Western Railway for the project and has deposited the project cost of Rs.9460 million with the railway.
