Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage Board is planning to implement a underground drainage project in the town located on the Bhavani river bed in the Mettupalayam municipality. Under this project, 22,000 households and commercial connections will be given and several manholes will be constructed and the project also includes a sewage treatment plant near the dump yard where an eight MLD plant will be set up. As of June 2016, Tami Nadu government has finalized and sanctioned the project.
