Vedanta is planning to double its copper production capacity by setting up a 400 kilo tonnes capacity copper smelter in the special economic zone area in Titucorin. The company will invest close to Rs. 25000 - 30000 million for this project. As of September 2016, the company has been granted around 250 acres of land by the Tamil Nadu government in the special economic zone. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2019.
