'National Highways Authority of India is planning to take up construction of Kazhakuttom-Inchivila highway, a part of the 212 km NH-47 bypass. The project involves widening of the 2-lane road to 4-lane, Construction of 4 major bridges, including a new bridge at Akkulam, 60 culverts, 1 rail overbridge at Chakka, and 11 underpasses. As of July 2013, the project is still in the planning stage.
