Tamil Nadu Generation & Distribution Corporation is planning to set up a coal based power unit in Vayalur in Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. The project envisages setting up a 1,600 MW (2 x 800 MW) power plant in 500 acre land. The company has reportedly signed an MoU with MMTC for supply of required coal from Indonesia. As of January 2014, the project has received clearance from Ministry of Environment & Forests
