NHAI is planning to take up two/four laning of the 204 km road length between Bangalore-Coimbatore-Dindigul under Phase-IV of NHDP. The project was originally proposed in May 2010. The section has been divided in 2 parts, between Tamil Nadu border and Kanakapura bypass, the road is designed to be two-lane paved shouldered road whereas from Kanakapura bypass to NICE Road junction off Bangalore it will be four laned. As of January 2014, the Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee has approved the project.
