National Hydroelectric Power Corporation is planning to set up a 1320 MW coal based thermal power project in Pirpainti, in Bhagalpur district of Bihar in joint venture with Bihar State Power Generation Company. A new company in the style of Pirpainti Bijlee Company has been floated for this purpose. The power project, with 1,320 MW capacity, will be set up at Pirpainti. It will be executed in two phases and each phase will have 660 MW capacity. As of February 2014, the joint venture agreement has been signed.
