Mahanadi Coalfields is planning to take up expansion of Bhubaneshwari opencast mine located at Bhubaneshwar, in Khurda district of Orissa. The project involves expansion of Bhubaneshwari opencast mine capacity from 20 million tpa to 25 million tpa. As of April 2014, the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has granted conditional clearance for the expansion project.
