Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority is planning to execute the Guwahati Metro project. The proposed metro network will connect the north bank of the city via a road-cum-rail bridge over the Brahmaputra at Narengi (on the south bank) and Kuruwa (on the north bank). Also, the provision of two-lane metro rail tracks will be incorporated in the design of the six-lane bridge. As of June 2014, GMDA has appointed Rail India Techno Economic Services to conduct a feasibility study and to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) on the project. The DPR for the project is expected to be ready in 10 months.
