Pune Municipal Corporation is setting up a light rail transport (LRT) project from Shivajinagar to Hinjewadi in Pune. The detailed project report for the 21.6 km rail project has already been prepared by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The project involves 20 elevated stations and three at road level on the 21.6 km route for the train that will run at 80 km per hour between Shivajinagar and Hinjewadi. As of June 2014, the civic standing committee have given the go-ahead for the proposed light rail transport (LRT) project .
