National Highway Authority of India is planning to take up highway development project in the Madurai-Ramanathapuram Section of NH-49 in Tamil Nadu. The project involves improvement & augmentation of four laning of 5 km to 79.340 km and two laning with paved shoulders from 79.34 km to 118.795 km on the road section. As of September 2014, NHAI has invited bids for consultancy services pertaining to the project.
